Go for a Marathon

Are you ready to go for a marathon? there is a lot of guides, articles and plans online. For me, as long as you have 50 KM mileage per week, and continuously for a month, then you are pretty well prepared, and you can easily run a sub 5 hours marathon. Go sign up a marathon, I personally recommend KL or Penang as your first Marathon as they are more well organized.

By this time, look back to yourself, what have you changed in your life. Do you see the different of yourself before getting into running?

Go for LSD (Long Slow Distance)

If you have mileage of 20km on weekdays, it is now for you to go for LSD. My LSD is referring to a 20 to 30 KM run on weekend. LSD starts very early in the morning, around 5:30 am, then we go for 2.5 to 3.5 hours run.  This run meant to be slow and relax, which some times you can chat along with other during the run.

Something that worth to try it out, bring along a recorder. As you run, both sides of your brain are working equally due to your body movements. This will the best time to think about some of your unresolved problem, your brain will give you the answer that you will never expect to be happen, record it down immediately using the recorder when you have said something to the questions that stuck in your mind for long time. Play it back at night, you will be surprised how your brain works during the run, and that could be the solution of your unresolved mystery.

If you just picking up running, try increase your distance and speed gradually. For distance, increased by 10% a week.

Monitor the change of your body, and emotion from week to week, put a little comment after each run to describe your mode. I guarantee you will gradually becoming more and more positive person from week by week.

Start with a Treadmill

Have you ever think of getting a treadmill? I had one at home, it is really save up your time if you are a parent who has limited time to work out in the gym.

Tips of choosing a treadmill
- Choose at lease 2.5 CHP (Continuous Duty Horse Power) model (to be fooled by the HP measurement), which CHP meant to allows you to run continuously if you have few persons in your family who are using it. Bear in mind, most of the model requires 30 minutes cool down after 1 or 2 hours of running. With higher CHP motor allows you to run faster speed and the motor can last longer.

- Choose the one has good suspension which gives you the comfort of running and it can reduce the noise of running at home. We don't want to disturb our family watching their favorite TV shows.

- Choose a good mat put underneath the treadmill, again this is to reduce noise.

Brand that I recommended, Nordick. It is a bit pricey, a good one can cost you RM7000, but you can go for 24 months installment which will then cost you RM300 per month, it a bit higher than a monthly gym membership but your entire family will benefit from it. In comparison of buying a massage chair which cost you about the same price, this will be much more worthy as it brings health to every member of you family, even they just walk 15 to 30 minutes on it.
